Top Ten Songs

1. "TNT" by AC/DC this is a song that my father and I would always listen to when I was younger and it just reminds me of all the times that him and I were in the back yard when I was younger pitching to him in the backyard.

2. "What It's Like" by Everlast is a song that I have always enjoyed because you don't really know what it's like. Everybody has their flaws or struggles that they are trying to fight everyday and you could have absolutely no idea. So there is no point in judging people before you get know them. It just speaks to me because there have been a lot of crazy things that have gone on in my life that not many people really know about.

3. "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw is another great song that I just recently started listening to because even when you might be doing great things there is no reason to show off. What I've learned is that you just need to stay humble and kind and things will only get better.

4. "The Greatest" by the rapper Futuristic is just a great song that I found last year that I always listen to before baseball games. It just talks about being underrated but then still being able to compete when people thought you couldn't and that explains me perfectly.

5. "I Somebody" by Locash is just an up beat song that I like to listen to. It just keeps me in a great mood.

6. "These Days" by Mike Stud who is a former baseball player, is a great song that most of us baseball players like to listen to on the weekends so that is something I will remember with this song. Just hanging out with the boys!

7. "Me, Myself, and I" by G-Eazy speaks to me because for me to get to where I am today I had to believe in me, myself, and I. Sometimes it is hard to but in the end that's what needs to happen.

8. "Wish I Had It" by Kevin Gates is another great song that just gets me pumped up before games that I feel speaks to me because it talks about the hustle, the grind, to get to where you want to be. He also says in the beginning, "vision without action is merely a dream", so go out and do what you envision.

9. "Confessions" by Florida Georgia Line is just a good country song that I love to listen to when I am hanging out with my friends back home or just driving around with the windows down.

10. "The Prayer" by Kid Cudi is just a meaningful song that kid of just talks about being yourself and nobody is going to remember you for material things. They are going to remember you for being you.

Top 5 Skills

The top five skills that I want to learn are better writing skills, time management, budgeting, work better with groups, and presentation skills. I want to  have flawless writing skills. I am going to be a teacher so I know there is going to be a lot of writing. My writing skills are not terrible by any means, but I would like to see it improve So by the time I leave Defiance college it would be great to have bettered my writing skills so I can become an even more successful teacher. Time management skills is another set of skills that will be helpful not only for teaching but just for an everyday life skill. Time management is huge when you have a lot of things to do. You need to be able to set times and find times to get things done. Budgeting is another big skill that will be great to learn. I never knew how much money I really spent and when I found out it was frightening. So it would be great to learn how to budget so I can actually save up my money. Working better with groups will definitely be a great skill to do better with. I am going to be an intervention specialist so I am going to be constantly working with different people to help my students be as successful as possible. So if I can learn to work better with groups of people then I will be a more successful teacher. My presentation skills would be great to better by the time I leave. I don't have problems giving presentations in front of people but it will never hurt to make my presentation skills better. It will only help when I am teaching or even giving group presentations to my fellow teachers.

Week 8 Differences between college and high school

Dear High School senior,

You may think you know what you are getting yourself into when you come to college but in reality you have no clue what you have in store for yourself! College professors are a lot different than your high school teachers. Your high school teachers might be specialize in a specific content area but they are not specialists like college professors by any means. In college your professors are specialists for what you are majoring in, they are here to help you become what you want to do in life. While your high school teachers are just there to help you move on to college. College professors are going to help you become who you really want to be. Another difference he discusses is the new kinds of motivation and discipline that college work requires. This is not high school anymore where you can slack off, turn in a paper that you barely worked on our thought about and still got a decent grade on it. In college you have to set time aside to complete your assignments, you have to be motivated to get it done and done correctly. You also have to be disciplined because in college there is a lot going on. You have to decide what is better for you, to go out and party on a certain night, or should you stay in and get this essay that is due on Monday done with. One thing that I have noticed is the effects of being a student athlete. In high school it wasn't too big of a deal playing a sport and dealing with school work. Now that I'm in college and have to balance out school and baseball it makes it extremely difficult to find time. Due to games I have to miss class and in college that is valuable time that is being missed that can effect your grades. So if you are wanting to play a sport in college and be successful in the classroom at the same time you have to be on top of your game in the classroom and on the field. Another aspect that is very important when you come to college is your communication skills, you have to be able to communicate effectively with your professors. You can never be afraid to confront your professors if you have a problem or question. They are always going to like it if you are active and asking them questions. Along with communicating with your professors, use the resources your wisely, in high school like I said before you can get by doing the minimal work, in college it doesn't work that way. There also aren't many resources to be used in high school either. There is a ton of useful resources in college that will make you successful you just have to use them to your advantage. So be smart, know what you're getting into when you come to college, and come prepared to do your best work!

Hitchcock Film Style

Hitchcock loved psychology and started to use psychoanalysis in his movies. He thinks of many different ways to find clues and he hints at the way people behave at certain moments. In a way he is almost playing with the audience by playing mind games to get the audience to be engaged and thinking about what is going on in his films. Ethics is another hot topic in films that Hitchcock seemed to get around in some of his movies based on some of the clothes the women were wearing, the duration of the kissing in his scenes, as well as the use of drinking and driving. This goes to show that Hitchcock was a little edgy in his films, going against the cultural norms of this time era. Hitchcock was way ahead of his time with his film ideas due to the fact that he was outgoing and did not seem to care about some of the rules that were in place for films during that time era. He worked his way around things such as the duration of kissing and the drunk driving, which was frowned upon during that time. He also used different camera angles constantly to give the audience a different perspective and point of view. Overall, Hitchcock and his film style changed film making due to him thinking outside of the box.

Psychology in Hitchcock films group activity

Psychology is the way we all think, feel, and behave.  Alfred Hitchcock's career was just starting when Sigmund Freud founded psychoanalysis in the 1920's.  Freud's theory was very popular in many films and books in the United States.  At first Hitchcock was very nervous about the usage of psychoanalysis in his films, but ended up causing his career to sky rocket.

A few examples of psychology in Hitchcock's film called Notorious are the following:
The MacGuffin in Notorious was the Uranium hidden inside the wine glasses.  When Alicia discovers her husbands fear of her going into the wine room, she realizes that the MacGuffin must be in that room.  She and Devlin tried the entire party to go into the wine room and find out what was being hidden in there.  When they finally broke in, they discovered that it was hidden in a wine bottle.  They discovered this because one of the bottles fell and broke onto the floor.  When Alexander discovers that they found out where he was hiding the uranium, he went into the wine room to find any clues as to how they knew.  He has to think of so many complex ways to find any clues possible.  This has a lot to do with psychology because he thinks of many different ways to find clues and the way he behaves when he finds out is also a great example.

When Alicia was poisoned by Alexander and his mother for being a US detective and finding the Uranium, Alicia quickly finds out that they knew she knew where the Uranium was.  She reacted quickly and became very worried about what was going to happen to her.  Devlin knew that something terrible had happened to Alicia since he hadn't heard from Alicia for a week.  He decided to go over to Alicia's house and find out what was wrong with her and that is when he discovered that she was being poisoned.  This goes along with their behavior and finding out information quickly.

Spring Break

For spring break the baseball team traveled down to Ft. Myers, Florida. While we were down there we got to play other colleges from all over the country. We got to play at the Red Sox developmental facilities. It was a great experience for it being my first spring trip with the team. While we were down there, we went 5-1, which is the best record that a team has had by the end of the Florida trip. Everyday that we were down there it was sunny and in the 80's, then we had to come back to Defiance where it is a lot colder. We got to have some free time while we were down there so a group of us went to the beach and that is when I realized how effective sun block is due to the severity of my sun burn. Overall, the team as a whole looked great over the spring trip and we will only continue to get better the more that we play.

Baseball season starts this week

Baseball starts this next Sunday and I could not be more excited. Whether I get to play or not, I could care less. It is going to be my first collegiate baseball game. This is something that I have been waiting a while for. It has always been my dream to continue to play baseball at the next level and after these long weeks of practice, we will see if all the hard work has paid off. We start the season in Kentucky playing Centre, so hopefully we can come out and start the season on a good note. That way we can be on a roll once we get to Florida. I am super pumped, we have a great group of guys that has a lot of talent. We can definitely do some damage this year if we put our mind to it.
